to joining Woodman Bernd was a Director in SocGen’s Global Emerging Market team
in London, responsible for the EM Outlook and Trading Strategies (FX &
Rates) for Hedge Funds and Asset Managers. During his time for SocGen he early
predicted the EM FX sell-off at the end of 2015 which was triggered by a drop
in commodity prices, a Chinese growth slowdown and Fed tightening calling Short
Positions in Commodity and Chinese related Latam EM FX like BRL, CLP a “Once in
a Lifetime Short” already in the Spring/Summer of 2015 before China devalued
its currency in August 2015 which triggered a global rout on high-yielding and
commodity EM FX. Prior to SocGen he was a Strategist in the FX & Fixed
Income department of Credit Suisse in Zurich being responsible for the
strategic outlook and trade recommendations for Global Emerging Market
currencies. Prior to joining Credit Suisse he hold various positions in the
hedge funds industry in London and Switzerland focusing on Global Macro/ Emerging
Markets FX & Fixed Income strategies. Bernd will be taking part in the Panel ‘Preparing
investors for Chinese investments - How can you increase your exposure to
offshore Yuan investments whilst managing key risks to enhance your returns?’
on 12th September and the session ‘Assessing the cases for a bullish or bearish market in 2020 - What
drivers will impact your EM investments?’ on 13th September.
